After the Second World War, the role of preparing a dissertation, began to be universally acknowledged, as an essential factor in upgrading the archivists’ professional expertise. Even today, acquiring the PhD is highly valued as a way of raising one’s credentials. Among the benefits, that preparing a doctoral dissertation brings, one should mention primarily those that affect scientific research skills. The young academics perfect their source browsing, analysing, and synthetic thinking abilities, as well as form their academic identity. Aquiring these qualifications is possible thanks to the fact of choosing the correct procedurę of preparing a dissertation (doctoral seminar, individual work, doctoral program), as well as the choosen forms of work.
