Luksus czy codzienność – importowane wina w starożytnym Rzymie (I w. p.n.e. – III w. n.e.)

Abstract

Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy handlu winem w starożytnym Rzymie w okresie od I w. p.n.e do III w. n.e. Pokazuje on, że od czasów Augusta do Rzymu importowano głównie średniej i niskiej jakości trunki przeznaczone do masowej konsumpcji, a nie jak postulował Finley “fame regional wines”. Sugeruje to, że handel w starożytności odgrywał znacznie istotniejszą rolę niż zakłada ortodoksyjny model antycznej ekonomii. This paper regards wine trade in antiquity between the 1st c. BC and the 3rd c. AD. It shows that, contrarily to what was postulated by Finley, most of wines imported to Rome in the imperial period were low or middle class beverages destined for mass consumption rather than “fame regional wines”. This suggests that the trade in antiquity might have played much more important role than it is assumed by the ‘orthodox’ model of the ancient economy.
