Gyula Gábris was born on July 22, 1942 in Miskolc. He graduated from the Eötvös Loránd University as a secondary school teacher specializing in Biology and Geography, and then as a Cartographer the following year. He holds a Doctorate from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and is currently a professor emeritus. His research interests include geomorphology, Quaternary research, and the geomorphological processes of rivers. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the reader to the most important stages of the professor’s life, his relationship to geography, and the factors shaping his career. The article is based on a series of online and personal interviews as well as written communication between October 2022 and January 2023. The research topics of Gyula Gábris are diverse; the directions have changed many times over the years, but he often returned to certain topics, building a very rich and colorful research oeuvre.
