Byzantium: The Social Basis of Decline in the Eleventh Century
Abstract
Of the various problems that undermined Byzantine strength in the 11th century, the two most serious were the conflict between the landed military aristocracy and the civil administration, and the religious and ethnic conflicts of the diverse national groups.
