There are many articles about ageing but few on the intensity of the phenomenon on the coast. Having specified the geographical limits and the methodology of the analysis, the article reveals the geographical variation of the phenomenon. The coasts of the southern regions of France differ from these of the north. The size of the towns also differs. The large ones are experiencing ageing very differently from the smaller ones. Based partially on multivariate analysis, this article shows the existence of various types of coastal communities with respect to ageing. The past rhythms of population growth and the tourist specialization of a territory are determinants of the growth of the elderly population. Analysis of littoral attractiveness shows that some model spaces are open to a vast recruitment area whereas others are more oriented to their own particular region. It also specifies that littoral attraction is very often the determining factor in the ageing of coasts.
