Modern cervical cancer screening programs have increased the detection of precancerous pathological changes, which is the result of a trend towards a decrease in overall morbidity and mortality in the general population. However, cervical cancer is one of themost common types of malignant tumors in women. Knowledge of the pathogenesis, morphology of precancerous lesions of the cervix, and screening problems in different countries will help improve the detection of changes in the cervix at early stages, which ultimately should reduce mortality from this pathology to a minimum. The review presents a systematization of modern literature data on epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, morphological characteristics and screening methods for precancerous lesions and cervical cancer.
