MONITORING OF SMOKING AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS

Abstract

Article examines the prevalence of smoking among medical students through a questionnaire. Anonymous survey was conducted with 976 students in the first and fifth years. The university has developed a relatively unfavorable situation with the spread of smoking: smoking in the first year 15,5% of students in the fifth – one-third (27,2%). The number of smoking students by the end of training in medical school compared to the beginning of study increased by 1,5-2 times. Students are not convincing enough information about the dangers of smoking and they are not convinced of the necessity of quitting. Monitoring results require strengthening universal measures of prevention and early diagnosis in educational institutions in order to avoid involvement in smoking in the initial training courses.
