Pancreatic steatosis: white spot in pancreatology
Abstract
Pancreatic steatosis was described 80 years ago. Ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging found that pancreatic steatosis (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) usually occurs in obesity and metabolic syndrome. There is a relationship between pancreatic steatosis and type 2 diabetes which exacerbates acute pancreatitis. Weight loss results in a reduction of fat in the pancreas.
