The purpose of the study is to trace the impact of modern digital technologies on the formation of new forms of art that originated from the theatrical and the cinematic arts, as well as to show their typological affinity with audiovisual art. The research methodology consists of historical and typological systematization, as well as an analysis of the phenomena of modern art, which extend the concept of audiovisual arts. Scientific novelty. For the first time, affected by digital technologies genres are explored in a context that removes the division of "live" and technically mediated art, thus it opens up the possibility of contemporary understanding of the nature and essence of audiovisual arts. Conclusions. Having traced the main stages of the adaptation of cinematic and digital technologies to the performing arts, as well as considering the trends of "extended cinema", we conclude that the works of theatrical and film origins become practically indistinguishable, uniting into one conditional genre of digital performances. Being essentially highly technological and operating with sound-visual images, this genre formally does not belong to audiovisual arts. In the current context of the development of digital technologies, this makes it questionable the essential value of certain formal features of audiovisual works, such as fixedness and unchanging reproducibility.
