Several thousand scientists conduct research and more than 100,000 students study in the Berlin Universities Alliance (BUA). Not only their enormous research output, but also the increasingly complex publication landscape require support and services on organizational, legal and technical issues of scientific publishing. In order to meet these needs we will train multipliers for open access using train-the-trainer workshops that are based on the recently published train-the-trainer concept on open access and scientific publishing. Together with the library of the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Charité Medical Library has conducted the first train-the-trainer workshops for people interested in open access at BUA institutions. The theoretical concept of the training is presented here, along with initial experiences and feedback from participants. This report is showcasing the re-usable train-the-trainer concept on open access and scholarly publishing in order to convince others to adapt and apply it at their institutions. The concept is a timesaving blueprint, contains all necessary basic information, teaching scripts as well as didactic methods and can be flexibly adapted to target groups, workshop duration and event type (online/present). Multipliers trained in this way can make a significant contribution to the implementation of open access.
