Demographic scenarios in Latin America and the Caribbean
Abstract
This work reports some of the demographic changes recorded in Latin America during 1970-2000. Since the sixties an ageing process has risen in the area from the increase in the life expectancy of its inhabitants, a result of the decreasing trends in natality and child and general mortality. Likewise, important changes in the distribution of urban population in this region took place during the twentieth century derived mostly from the constant migration, which have resulted in three of every four persons living in urban areas.
