New Studies of the Residential Buildings on the Bolgar Fortified Settlement
Abstract
The study of the everyday life of ancient and medieval populations is one of the most important fields of archaeology. This includes the identification and subsequent reconstruction of residential buildings. This can testify to the life of different peoples over the centuries, skills in the construction of various buildings, and evolution in house-building. Especially visible is the complication of dwelling types in the Middle Ages, which took place in Eastern Europe. The remains of urban residential buildings revealed in archaeological excavations provide interesting evidence of this. In this regard, an important indicator of this can be the residential structures of large centers, which are the best evidence of the construction knowledge of the population that left them. Thus, the identification and study of the remains of residential buildings on the Bolgar ancient settlement has been going on for several decades, their structural features have been revealed, and a code and typology have been compiled. Therefore, the new material published by the author allows us to supplement the information about such interesting objects of construction.
