De Une femme laide a Uma mulher feia: trajetória de uma adaptação no palco do Teatro de São Pedro de Alcântara
Abstract
This paper presents the adaptation of the French vaudeville Une femme laide (1845), written by Jules de Prémaray, for the São Pedro de Alcântara Theater's stage, at Rio de Janeiro, in 1846. Using an approach based on Spectacle's Cultural History, we will discuss the play debut, its censure, carried out by Martins Pena, as well as the textual changes made for the Portuguese adaptation.
