Purpose. The study is to understand taste in anthropological discourse. The relevance of the foundations of taste preferences of late antiquity. To reveal of the premises of aesthetic taste in the teachings of the ancient Greeks: Plotinus, Proclus, Lactantius, Justin, early christianity. Methodology. The basis of the methodological base in the work is the reconstruction of the historical-genetic approach, epistemological and axiological methods. Results. The results of the study are that the by the ongoing search for this aesthetic category, as well as the spiritual crisis of modern society. And it was in the ancient world that the foundations of the aesthetic perception of people, things or phenomena were laid. The scientific novelty of the study is to enrich the theme of aesthetic perception of taste in the late antiquity. The relation to the beauty phenomenon of various philosophical schools and directions of late antiquity is shown. It also gives an idea of the early milestone of aesthetic tastes in comparison with earlier antique views. Toward the end of the era, aesthetic preferences were largely driven by the young Christian religion.
