Finanças e comércio no Brasil da primeira metade do século XIX: a atuação da firma inglesa Samuel Phillips & Co – 1808-1831
Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the actions of Jewish and British firm Samuel & Phillips, Samuel Phillips & Co then in Brazil since the Johannine period until the year 1831, the year of the abdication of Dom Pedro I, in which the firm became one of the attorneys of the same in Brazil. Although transactions involving the shipment of gold coins (which were also goods, as well as means of payment) and bills of exchange at the time is fairly common practice, the History of Commerce, involving history Mercantile Marine (and Navy) and the System Atlantic is still a field of economic history that needs to be expanded.
