Clinicoepidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 positive patients of the province of Camagüey
Abstract
Background: the province of Camagüey has been affected by the incidence of COVID-19. However, no new cases have been presented since June 14.Objective: to characterize the clinical and epidemiological variables of COVID-19 positive patients of the province of Camagüey from March to June 2020.Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out during the period herein declared. The universe was made up of the 49 patients diagnosed with COVID-19. The data were taken from the records of the vigilance department of the Provincial Health Office. The following variables were assessed: age, sex, municipality of origin, comorbidities, clinical symptomatology and epidemiology. Descriptive statistics was used.Results: the 51 to 60 age group was the most frequent one (10 patients, 20,4 %), followed by those over 60 years (9 cases, 18,3 %). The female sex prevailed in the diagnosis (26 for 53 %). There was a higher incidence in the municipality of Camagüey (53 patients, 71,5 %), with a prevalence in the “Joaquín de Agüero” Polyclinic (13 cases, 37,1 %). Only 29 patients presented comorbidities, with hypertension as the most frequent (24,4 %), mainly those over 60 years (41,6 % of the hypertensive patients). Cough (65,5 %), sore throat (37,9 %), fever (34,4 %) and expectoration (31,1 %) were the commonest clinical manifestations. The source of infection in all the cases was identified, with a predominance of contact with positive cases (59,1 %).Conclusions: the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of the patients with COVID-19 in the province were described.
