The study of mother’s knowledge regarding their children, s Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Abstract
Introduction: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common psychiatric disorder among school age children. Late diagnosis can cause bad side effect in their children and young adolescent s social, occupational and educational relationships. It s obvious that mothers knowledge can have an effect on follow up process. Objective: The goal of this study is to determine the level of mothers knowledge regarding ADHD. Methods: This is a descriptive study and its sample consisted of 60 mothers whose children were diagnosed with ADHD during first three months of 2008 and were reffered to Educational center of Shafa in Rasht. Study instrument was a questionnaire and results were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results: Findings showed that the majority of samples (68%) had moderate knowledge regarding the disease. Conclusion: Due to moderate knowledge level/giving more education regarding children's mental health is necessary.
