Management of high pressure water jet oropharyngeal injury
Abstract
High-pressure water jets are used widely across various industries, and work-related injuries to the extremities commonly occur. However, high-pressure water injuries to the oropharynx are uncommon and can result in significant injury and aerodigestive compromise. These injuries are characterized by severe internal injuries far exceeding the minimal observable external damage. Here we review the case of a 37-year-old male with an oropharyngeal injury secondary to a power washer, the associated management, and provide a review of the literature of similar injuries.
