Both Czechoslovakian Baptists as well as Seventh-day Adventist maintain the principle of the separation of church and state. This study, in its first part, describes differences of understanding of this principle between the two free churches. In the second part it describes the application of this principle in the reality of the communist regime. It is rather surprising that the attitudes of the two in reality differed almost completely. The summary explains the reasons behind this fact being Adventist pragmatism, struggle for free Saturday, and trauma of the government ban of the SDAs (1952–1956).
