A MANIFESTAÇÃO VERBAL DA EVIDENCIALIDADE NAS VARIEDADES FALADAS DO PORTUGUÊS AFRICANO CONTEMPORÂNEO / THE VERBAL MANIFESTATION OF EVIDENTIALITY IN THE CONTEMPORARY AFRICAN PORTUGUESE VARIETIES
Abstract
RESUMO Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar, sob a perspectiva funcionalista (HENGEVELD; MACKENZIE, 2008), as propriedades funcionais e formais que caracterizam a manifestação verbal da evidencialidade nas variedades faladas do português africano contemporâneo, considerando-a como importante domínio funcional responsável pela expressão da fonte da informação, cuja manifestação linguística é motivada por fatores contextuais, sociais, cognitivos e discursivos. Para isso, consideramos 20 amostras textuais do português falado em Angola, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique e São Tomé e Príncipe, compiladas no Corpus do Português Falado - Variedades Geográficas e Sociais. Os resultados revelaram que (a) há um predomínio da expressão lexical da evidencialidade por meio de verbos indicadores de inferência, seguida da estratégia de evidencialidade reportativa, empregada como recurso coesivo pelo falante para retomar um conteúdo comunicado em outro momento de seu discurso; (b) o falante constitui a fonte da informação, elaborando sua inferência com base em conhecimento acumulado ou com base em alguma evidência disponível. ABSTRACT This paper aims to analyze functional and formal properties that characterize the verbal manifestation of evidentiality in the contemporary African Portuguese spoken varieties, considering it as an important functional domain responsible for the expression of source of information, whose linguistic manifestation is motivated by contextual, social, cognitive and discursive factors. For this, we considered 20 textual samples of Portuguese spoken in Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe, compiled in the Corpus of Portuguese Spoken - Geographical and Social Varieties. The results revealed that (a) there is a predominance of the lexical expression of evidentiality by means of inference verbs followed by the strategy of reportive evidentiality, used as a cohesive resource by the speaker to resume a content communicated in another moment of his speech; (b) the speaker is the source of the information, elaborating his inference based on accumulated knowledge or based on some available evidence.
