Number of Holy Names of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (An Answer to a Chritian Orientalist)

Abstract

Asma al-Nabi, refers to the names, attributes and nicknames of Prophet Muhammad . Our beloved Prophet Muhammad is mentioned by name five times in the Qur’an and there are hundreds of other attributes and names which are mentioned in the books of Ahadith. It is to be noted that metaphorically, all attributes of Prophet Muhammad are the sublime names of him mentioned in the Qur’an. His beautiful name is written on the doors of Paradise and also written with the name of Allah on His great throne. In the history of Islamic literature there are so many books which have been written on the holy names of Prophet Muhammad and some of them contain more than 1000 blessed names. In this article, I have endeavored to research on the numbers of exalted names of Prophet Muhammad mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith. This article will help the scholars to answer those critics who claim that there are only five or six holy names of Prophet Muhammad referred in the Qur’an and Ahadith. My research leads to more than 40 blessed names of Prophet Muhammad mentioned in the Quran.
