Near the end of the 1950s, a new key artistic institution was created in Argentina — The National Endowment for the Arts. Its primary function was to centralize and administrate all public funds granted to the promotion of art and culture. What was new about it was that it was able to create financial programs in order to fulfill its objectives, thus making the FNA the first national bank for the arts. In this paper we will study the impact that this institution had on the Argentinian art world, its market, and the hierarchies within.
