The Biblical Pericope Vaiera: Basis for a Judeo-Christian Encounter for a Dialogue About Salvation

Abstract

In this paper the author aims to show that the biblical pericope Vaiera (Genesis 22:1-19) can be understood and used as basis for a Judeo-Christian encounter for a dialog about salvation. The study is exegetical and theological, but also literary-thematic. The Judaic view and the Christian view regarding the narrative will be brought forth, because both communities of believers identify themselves in the paradigmatic imagery of Abraham’s suffering and Isaac’s symbolic sacrifice. Vaiera brings in the reader’s attention the holocaust, but also the resurrection.
