Cities play a relevant role as spaces of cultural influence, social inclusion and as a catalyst for the economic development of a region or country. This research aims to compile the main theoretical and practical contributions that explain the role of creative cities as a new model of economic, social and cultural development. In the methodological aspect, it reflects a qualitative documentary analysis, referring to the main authors of the area, documents and reports of international organizations. The development of the theoretical corpus indicated that the incessant growth of cities and the economic, social and environmental problems that it entails require new models of economic, social and cultural development. Through the concept of creative cities, the dimensions that this model should cover through public policies that benefit its urban-territorial dynamism are explored. In conclusion, the measurements taken to determine the situation of the cities, taking into account creative-cultural parameters, are tools that should contribute to the design of political strategies in search of sustainability
