The title compound, C15H13ClN2O2, was prepared by the reaction of 3-methoxybenzaldehyde and 4-chlorobenzohydrazide in methanol. The asymmetric unit consists of two unique molecules, which are linked together in the form of a cross by N—H...O and N—H...N hydrogen bonds. The dihedral angles between the two benzene rings in the molecules are 77.3 (1) and 44.1 (1)°. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked through intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the a axis.
