This article takes a critical look at the Quebec immigration and integration policy developed and implemented over the past thirty years, in the wake of the nationalist movement and the negotiation of various agreements with the federal government. In the first section, the author evokes the socio-political context that led to Quebec’s increased involvement in the selection and integration of immigrants and in the promotion of harmonious intercultural relations between Quebecers of all origins. In the second and third sections, the author analyses the directions taken in each of these areas as well as the extent to which the objectives originallys ought were attained, among other things, as regards the contribution of immigration to the Francophone character and the pluralist transformation of Quebec society.
