During the 17th century, a new kind of poetry of varied themes and lengths was created revolving around the figures of Remedios and Guadalupe in which it is possible to identify a series of motifs that are reworked and resignified. The most frequent is providential vision in which the historical evolution of Mexico is tied in with the history of Christianity through the Virgin Mary. This article examines how successive poetic experiences contributed to the configuration of poetry of heroic breadth that achieves its maximum expression in the Guadalupano particular case. This study includes poems written in octavas reales, the metric privileged by the Hispanic tradition to celebrate the deeds of illustrious men and women.
