Democracy: Is it both possible and desirable?

Abstract

I will be arguing that democracy as classically and normally understood is no doubt possible, but hardly desirable. And if there is some alternative to the usual concept that is both recognizably possible and yet desirable, it' not easy to say what it is. But a closely related idea might be both - what we might call, the Democracy of the Market.
