In 1986 began to develop a new kind of tourism in Brazil, called rural tourism. The implementation of this alternative had a special significance for the farmers, who had a new way to generate income, and for state and local governments, which found an alternative way to reduce the rural exodus. But the success of this type of tourism, and for the means of accommodation in particular, depends on several factors, among which are the entrepreneurial competencies of the owners. Considering this issue, the aim of this research was to measure the entrepreneurial competencies of the owners of inns and hotels farm located in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul and analyze whether their competencies relate to organizational performance perceived by respondents. With this objective we have adopted the proposed Cooley (1990) to assess the entrepreneurial competenciesand the proposal of Gupta and Govindarajan (1984) to measure the performance subjectively. In the analysis of its relations we used a quantitative approach. Data were obtained from questionnaires and their processing was used multivariate methods (correspondence analysis and cluster analysis) and univariate (parametric Anova and Pearson correlation). A general analysis of the relationships showed that the entrepreneurial skills of the whole achievement are those that are strongly correlated with the performance of the inns and hotels farm included in the analysis. The five competencies that make up the set have significance with some performance indicator.
