The idea of a church or parish community is a constant in Russian theology. But until today, no one has really attempted to define it nor has anyone tried to determine its origin nor to trace the evolution of this term in theology. The aim of this article is to define the watershed moments which shaped the definition and further developments of this term in the Russian tradition
