The article investigates the importance of Serra da Barriga, national historical patrimony, as reference of identity for militants of the Black Brazilian Movement. From a personal experience, the author describes aspects of the militancy of the Black Brazilian Movement, where it was inserted after reading of some black intellectuals in the early eighties of the twentieth century. Next, he makes historical considerations about Quilombo de Palmares and ends with a brief description of the current Serra da Barriga, a place of memory for Afro-Brazilians.
