Experimental and numerical investigation on fatigue behavior of PUR (rigid polyurethane) elastomers 90ShA used in automotive engineering
Abstract
For mechanical automobiles, elastomers are regarded as a common vibration damping material. The most widely used components are made of rubber, mostly because of their cost. PUR (rigid polyurethane) compounds are alternatives. This study presents the findings from studies on polyurethane materials in a specific hardness configuration. The hardness and fatigue tests received the most attention, and more crucially, the impact of the hardness value achieved on fatigue was investigated using both experimental and numerical methods. It was shown how a material with a specific stiffness, defined as 90ShA hardness, behaved significantly. All of the outcomes were contrasted with those of competitive materials, such rubbers, which had comparable hardness. PUR consistently demonstrated substantial fracture toughness.
