Objective:To evaluate the patients who presented to our department due to testicular torsion (TT) and investigate the risk factors affecting orchiectomy in patients with TT.Materials and Methods:Between November 2005 and January 2018, the data of 46 male patients were analysed. The patients were divided into two groups: group 1, patients who underwent orchiectomy and group 2, patients who underwent detorsion and testicular fixation. The paternity rates between groups 1 and 2 were compared. Statistical analyses were performed to determine the risk factors for orchiectomy. Results:The participants’ mean age was 26.9 years. Of the cases, 35 (76.1%) were determined between November and March, when diurnal temperature changes were observed. Orchiectomy was performed in 31 patients (group 1) and testicular detorsion and fixation in 15 (group 2). The overall orchiectomy rate was 67.4%. The duration between the onset of complaints and the intervention was found to be the only risk factor for orchiectomy in TT. The paternity rate in groups 1 and 2 was 86.6% and 85.7%, respectively (p=1.0).Conclusion:The prolongation between the onset of complaints and the application in TT is a risk factor for orchiectomy. Prompt diagnosis and intervention are required in treatment. Regarding paternity rates, groups 1 and 2 appear similar.
