This article is devoted to the Summer Olympics in Moscow in 1980, specifically, the issue of participation the team from Great Britain, which was manifested in the "boycott the Olympics". Paid attention to display the main cause of the boycott and study the role of the British and American governments in its organization. The article notes, that boycott the Olympic Games in Moscow was the impetus for a mass protest the countries of the world against the aggressive policy of the USSR in the late 1970s towards Afghanistan, by pressure on the National Olympic Committees of world powers. The article contains information about the most discussion questions concerning American "alternative games" or the "post - Olympics International Sports Festival" as an alternative summer Olympic Games in Moscow. The novelty of this problem is that British-soviet relations especially in the sphere of sport in 1980 will be researched for the first time. During their negotiations the leaders from Great Britain, the USA and the USSR touched upon the problems of British, American and Soviet foreign policy and intensification of their positions on the international area. The article states, that the main initiator the boycott of Olympics in 1980 was the U.S.A, not Great Britain.
