This article examines paid domestic work in Uruguay, emphasizing the chiaroscuro of daily tasks, roles, and negotiations. It aims to analyze labor relations from the point of view of their actors. Based on a qualitative survey carried out in different regions of the country, two themes are addressed: the hiring and outsourcing dynamics of care work, as well as the ways in which working and employment conditions are negotiated, and the forms taken by the termination of employment. By linking narratives and reflections, this article sheds light on the methodological possibilities and limits of an intimacy-based approach.
