It is a well-known fact that Tamil is the most ancient of all the languages of the world. Hence, it is conferred the status of the language. To its credit, it has a bulk volume of literary works and grammar texts. Dating back to the pre-Christian era down to the present age, Tamil is divided into Sangam Literature, Moral Literature, Epics and Modern Literature, Epics etc. As epics are very lengthy in size they are also known as long narrative poems. “Thandi Alangaram” gives us a detailed account of the rules and regulations for writing epics. “Kambaramayamam” was written by Kambar based on Valmigi's “Ramayana”. Though there are many research books available on “Kambaramayanam”, N.Subbu Reddiar's critical books are very famous. Reddiar approached “Kambaramayanam” from the viewpoint of culture. His analysis of the character of Hanuman is excellent. He brings out the character of Hanuman in the form of a vision to our eyes. While compared to Valmiki's “Ramayana”, “Kambaramayana” is rich in the portraiture of culture. Parental love, brotherly love, people's mentality, beliefs and customs are beautifully brought out by the out Professor Subbu Reddiar. The scope of this paper is to show how Professor Subbu Reddiar has excellently analyzed “Kamba Ramayanam” with his in-depth study.
