The article deals with the mechanisms of metabolism of linoleic and α-linoleic polyunsaturated fatty acids as precursors of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids — arachidonic (ω-6 family) and docosahexaenoic acid (ω-3 famyli). The authors demonstrate the results of modern experimental and clinical trials, studying their influence on cognitive development and vision keenness in animals, preterm and term infants.
