Perception of green spaces and their ecosystem services by local actors in the city of Bujumbura (Republic of Burundi) Awareness of the importance of green spaces and the ecosystem services they provide is essential for any program to protect them in urban areas. For this reason, the perception of the green spaces of the communes of the city of Bujumbura (Muha, Mukaza and Ntahangwa) in Burundi and their ecosystem services by local actors from an online and semi-directed survey was appreciated. The results reveal that the green spaces of the city of Bujumbura are concentrated in the commune of Mukaza and suggest an uneven distribution. In addition, regardless of the survey, playgrounds are the dominant type of green space in Bujumbura. More than 80% of green spaces are qualified as public and for those which are private, the players are not unanimous on the cost of accessibility. The quality of their management and maintenance is average in Mukaza and low in other communes of the city. Respondents perceive that green spaces potentially offer the possibility of leisure and physical and psychological well-being as dominant ecosystem services. Measures to preserve existing green spaces and those of creation in the expanding parts of the city are needed.
