Excerpts of the somali geography in Literature: an appreciation of the novel "The ochard of lost souls"

Abstract

This text proposes a debate over (a) the territorial questions of Somalia as a sovereign state and (b) the geopolitical questions that involved that country in the context of the cold war, from the interpretation of excerpts of the novel “The orchard of lost souls”, from Nadifa Mohamed (2016). The romance has as background the beginning of the process of political-institutional dissolution, economic and social of Somalia in the perspective of three women, living in Somalia – in absolutely different conditions – from Hargeisa. In this text, seeks a meeting between geographical science and the literary art, allowing that the flux generated by the dialogue between both forms of expression of human knowledge generate a comprehension of the territorial questions and the geopolitical context of Somalia in the second half of the 20th century.
