The semantic and structural analysis of the compound adjectives fixed in Ukrainian monuments of the 11-13th centuries is performed in this article. The semantics and the main structural types of such derivatives are described. The features of their origin, waves of borrowing and adaptation in the old Ukrainian language are determined. Actually compound adjectives in the Old Ukrainian language executed such semantic functions: 1) intensify the value of positive sign (blaho-, dobro-, vse-, vele-); 2) reinforce the value of negative sign (blaho-, zlo-, vse-); 3) indicate the degree of expression of a sign (velyko-, vysoko-, mnoho-, malo-, try- / tre-). In the role of the first component of such derivatives could act as bases nominal parts of speech (noun, pronoun, numeral), which in the Old Ukrainian language assimilated, lost their original meaning and turned into a kind of prefixoids modifiers. Such derivatives were created according to the Church Slavonic word-formative models, while expanding a word-formative base, and thus structural features.
