Revisiting the couple “argumentative aim” and “argumentative dimension” from the point of view of a classical definition - argumentation as a structural composition linking between a reason and a claim – this paper however aspires to integrate it in Discourse analysis as suggested by Amossy. It distinguishes between Grize’s notion of point of view (“éclairage”) on a schematization; the rhetorical dimension of an opinion expressed without justification; justified argumentation; and dialectical argumentation. I thus offer a model allowing to measure the weight of argumentation in a given corpus, as well as the weight of opinions presented as obvious. This model is tested on Donald Trump’s tweets in order to show the importance of the rhetorical dimension in his political communication.
