A. P. CHEKHOV AND G. HAUPTMANN: TWO VERSIONS OF COMEDINESS

Abstract

A. P. Chekhov and G. Hauptmann used the genre of comedy among the authors of the «Modern drama». The paper analyzes Chekhov’s and Hauptmann’s concepts of comedy and identifies the common and different points. Hauptmann’s comediness assist the understanding of such a remarkable phenomenon as Chekhov's comediography.
