The exhibition “Us” presents the photographs of Arno Brignon taken during three trips he made across the USA between 2018 and 2022 with his family. The initial motivation for these trips was two-fold: the artist wanted to see Trump’s America, as anticipation for what awaits us in Europe, and he also sought to retrace the footsteps of his father who was often absent when he was growing up as he was abroad in the USA. As these trips unfolded, however, Brignon’s motivations changed: he ended up approaching the country not wanting to understand or conquer it photographically (as so many others had done before); he incorporated his own intimate life into his work, which was a way for him to distinguish himself from his predecessors and to mark his own, very personal, signature on the project. This is not the first time that Brignon has turned the constraints imposed on him by the circumstances to his photographic advantage.
