This paper aims to discuss the time the Amazonian populations under go one of most dramatic experience of its history. It is the incorporation of the region to the logic of the market economy in the mid-nineteenth century, from the exploitation of the indigenous workforce and riverside communities, mobilized for the extraction of forest production, in the particular the elastic gum.
