The aim of this article is to analyse the educational scenario in Brazil and Portugal during the late nineteenth century. See how the educational principals were formed and what is the space for women education within the formal education. For this, it will be an overview of the main ideas that circled the social movements and historical events of the second quarter nineteenth century.
