The presented work describes the everyday life of peat miners living in South Bohemia in the first half of the 20th century. In the context of this topic, it first focuses on how society perceived peat as a raw material at that time. The author mainly focuses on its use in various economic sectors. In the next part, the text addresses the life of the people who mined peat and describes the nature of peat mining and the problems associated with it, as well as the impact on the social status of peat miners. Examples of three areas — Šumava, Veselská Blata and Novohradsko — are used as a probe. These three areas are compared with each other using extant archival materials created primarily through the economic activities of local economic entities. Of no less importance, the chronicles of the adjacent villages are used to fill out the overall depiction of the life of peat miners.
