Afforestation on abandoned land is essential for preventing degradation phenomena to increase biodiversity, ecosystem services and human well-being by expanding the forest fund and furthermore, it changes the soil properties at chemical level. Material and method. Three areas near the forest fund were analyzed, within the radius of Someșu Rece, Răchițele and Valea Drăganului. For the mapping of the site, measurement data of climatic factors (thermal and pluviometric regime) were taken from the nearby weather stations (Vlădeasa and Cluj), the herbaceous, shrubby and tree species present in and around the surfaces, respectively the edaphic conditions were determined. Results. Within the surface of the Someșu Rece area, the soil type is lithic districambosol and afforestation composition 6 Fa (Pam) + 4 Mo (La, Pi). Within the surface of the Răchițele area, the soil type is subskeletic districambosol and the afforestation composition is 6 Fa (PaM, Ulm) +4 Mo (Br). In the area of Valea Drăganului, the soil type is subskeletal districambosol and the forest composition is 6 Fa (Pam) + 4 Mo (La, Pi). The species in the afforestation compositions will exploit the conditions in the planting areas, being chosen according to the climato-edaphic conditions.
