Activities of the Historical Club at St. Petersburg University in 1909–1919
Abstract
Background. The article is devoted to the activities of the Historical Club – a student scientific association operating on the basis of Imperial St. Petersburg (Petrograd) University from 1909 to 1919. The author of the article analyzes the composition of the club, the types of work carried out by its members, and also focuses on the role of the leader in the student scientific association of prerevolutionary Russia. Materials and methods. The activities of the Historical Club are reconstructed on the basis of original sources: annual reports of St. Petersburg University, solemn and memorable speeches of members of the student society, as well as memories of members of the circle and colleagues of its leader. To achieve this goal, along with general scientific methods (analysis and synthesis, induction, description), the historical-genetic method was used, which makes it possible to reveal the types of activities and functions of the Historical Club and, in general, to trace the dynamics of the development of the student association under study and biographical methods. Results. The activities of the historical student association of one of the leading universities of pre-revolutionary / Soviet Russia have been recreated on the basis of attract-ed historical sources. Conclusions. The historical circle under the leadership of A. S. Lap-po-Danilevsky was one of the stable student organizations of St. Petersburg University in 1909–1919. despite the fact that at this time the Russian capital and the country as a whole faced quite a few trials. The practice of organizing student scientific associations in Russian universities at the beginning of the 20th century, revealed by the example of the Historical Club at St. Petersburg (Petrograd) University, can be taken into account when organizing student science in modern Russia.
