L’Any Jaume I. Une mobilisation commémorative et ses premiers effets historiographiques
Abstract
The year 2008 was marked in some of Spain’s Autonomous Communities by strenuous efforts to mobilise political and academic circles for a celebration of the eight hundredth anniversary of the birth of king Jaime I of Aragon (1208-1276). Coming in the wake of long-standing commemorative practices involving very numerous institutional actors and sometimes differing objectives, the events of the Any Jaume I provided a favourable setting for the publication of a large number of historical works on the monarch and his reign. Numerous editions of documents, biographies and digests, but also more erudite studies, have provided an opportunity to examine the period using new critical tools and have substantially altered the historiographic lens through which it can be viewed. Nonetheless, these new interpretations have had to coexist with other discourses and other historical currents.
