Attitudes of Operating Room Students of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences in Iran Towards Their Field of Study and Future Career

Background and Objectives: Educating efficient human resources in universities in challenging fields of study such as the operating room is related to various factors. The attitude of operating room students towards their field of study is very important. Therefore, this study aims to survey the attitudes of operating room students of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences (MUMS), Mazandaran, Iran towards their field of study and future career. Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, the study population consists of all operating room students of MUMS. A questionnaire with 21 items was used for surveying their attitudes. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Independent t-test and One-way analysis of variance in SPSS software, version 22. Results: The mean age of participants was 22.3± 2.7 years, of 68 participants, 63 (92.6%) were single. The attitude scores of married students were higher than that of single students, and female students had higher scores than male students, but these differences were not significant. The first-year students had the higher scores, followed by second-year, fourth-year and third-year students, and this difference was significant (P= 0.001). Conclusion: The attitudes of operating room students of MUMS towards their field of study and future career at moderate to high level; they have a positive attitude. In this regard, by further educational programs, more success can be achieved from the existing potential in education, research, and specialized care.
